The Regional Rusumo Falls Project will also have Transmission lines associated to the Power Plant facility. The transmission lines will be financed by a number of financier including the African Development Bank (AfDB), KfW, the European Investment Bank (EIB), AFD of France, SIDA (Sweden), Nigerian Trust Fund (NTF), among others.
Each of the three partner governments and its Utility Company will be responsible for the evacuation of power from the power plant. Three 220kV transmission lines shall be constructed to connect the power plant substation to the respective centres within each country as follows: (a) Rusumo Falls – Gitega (Burundi), 161km; (b) Rusumo Falls – Nyakanazi (Tanzania), 98km; and (c) Rusumo Falls – Shango and Bugesera (Rwanda), 119km.
