Engaging Rusumo Communities of Rwanda on Safety Matters
In March 2021, NELSAP Rusumo Project organized engagement and consultation meetings with Rusumo community representatives on Rwanda side at to discuss on Project updates, safeguards matter including implementation of the Project’s grievance redress mechanism. One engagement forum was held on March 4th and 25th, 2021 at Rusumo Health Post in Kirehe District and another one was held at EPADR Rusumo Church Kirehe, Rwanda respectively.
NELSAP engagement meeting are organized to enhance community sensitization on matters related to safety at construction sites and the surrounding areas. The forums also serve to consider community’s opinions on the Project and address social and environmental concerns related to the project through a grievance redress mechanism that was established by the Project since the time of resettlement. The meetings also discuss on how best the Project can improve communication and information sharing in this period of Covid-19 prevention, where it is important to avoid crowds’ gatherings.
