Rusumo Project Council of Ministers (CoM) held the 11th meeting on December 6, 2019 at Rusumo One Stop Border Post of Tanzania after visiting construction sites of the 80 MW Power Plant.
Rusumo CoM include Minister for Energy, Hon. Eng. Come Manirakiza, Rwanda Minister of Infrastructure, Hon Amb Claver Gatete and Tanzania Minister for Energy, Hon Dr Medard Kalemani.
The main constructions of the Power Plant are located at the Rusumo border between Tanzania and Rwanda.
The switchyard is located on Rwanda side and the workers' camp is located in Tanzania at 5km from the Rusumo Border.
The Ministerial delegations first met at the Rusumo One Stop Border Post and visited the progress of the power intake construction and the powerhouse.
Construction progress is at about 59%: power intake, spillway structure, powerhouse, inlet chamber and penstock works as well as the headrace tunnel works are on right track. Construction of residential houses for RPCL employees are almost complete.
Rusumo CoM Members appreciated the progress recorded so far and urged Project Management to work more closely with Contractors and speed up the construction works in order to complete the Project on due time.
