Burundi Minister of Energy outreaches to beneficiaries of LADP water projects in Busoni and Giteranyi Communes
Burundi Minister of Hydraulic, Energy, and Mines, Hon. Eng. Ibrahim UWIZEYE, also a member of RPCL Council of Ministers visited the two water projects of the Local Area Development Program (LAPD) implemented in Busoni and Giteranyi Communes in Kirundo and Muyinga provinces respectively on August 23rd- 26th, 2023. Honorable UWIZEYE was accompanied by the Inspector General of Burundi Ministry of Energy, Burundi RPCL Board of Directors as well as NELSAP Project Management and RPCL representatives, the LADP Coordinator as well as the local leaders from the communes.
The visiting officials were received by the Chief of Cabinet in the Office of Muyinga Governor, Ms. Denise NDARUHEKERE. She welcomed the delegation with gratitude note of appreciation on the social positive changes brought by LADP Giteranyi and highlighted her commitment to address remaining actions to be implemented in water project and to ensure that Giteranyi communities have full access potable water from LADP Giteranyi.
The visiting delegation was taken to the 30 km of water supply system rehabilitated and extended to neighbouring villages to view if all water sources are benefiting communities. Later, the visitors were taken to the 39 km of water supply system that was rehabilitated and extended in villages of Kigeri, Rwibikara and in Bishisha, with water collected by catchment of the surrounding water sources.
During his interview with the Radio Television Nationale du Burundi (RTNB), Hon. Uwizeye highlighted the urgency to fast-track the water projects for them to be fully functional. “The pumping station of Giteranyi commune and Murore in Busoni commune should be functional in the next month with support of REGIDESO”, he said. The LADP coordination should work closely with national water utility to bring electrification in the area to support the solar energy enhancing water from the main reservoirs to water sources”, he added.
