Inaugural visit of Ruzo Youth Center and Bugoma Health Center by the 1st vice-president of Burundi National Assembly

On November 8, 2022, the first vice-president of Burundi National Assembly, Dr Sabine NTAKIRUTIMANA inaugurated the Bugoma Health Center and Ruzo Youth Training Centre constructed under LADP of Rusumo Project.
Hon Dr Sabine was accompanied by the members of parliament natives of Giteranyi communes. The inauguration ceremony was led by the Governor of Muyinga Province, Mr. Jean Claude BATUNGWANAYO and Administrator of Giteranyi Commune, Mrs. Floride NDUWAYEZU.
After cutting the inaugural ribbon, the Deputy Head of Burundi Chamber of Deputies visited services of Bugoma’s Health Center which are well equipped and already operational; she also randomly interacted with outpatients on their impression to have a health facility in their neighborhood.

Dr Sabine invited the office of the governor and health department to ensure maintenance of the health facility and sustain good health services to the surrounding communities. So far, Bugoma HC receives approximately 1,400 outpatients per month and the Center can receive about 20 women’s delivery per month.

Refining and impacting livelihoods of Rusumo communities

The inaugural visit continued to Ruzo youth training, commonly called CEM (Centre d’Enseignement des Metiers) which is also equipped with cooking and tailoring profession classes being functional. Carpentry and welding classes will be soon open as soon as the school received adequate teachers.

The Government of Burundi supports and encourages youth communities to enroll in Technical and Vocational Education and Trainings that equip them with relevant professional skills, knowledge, and technological innovation processes to address unemployment and hence enable them to effectively enhance their socio-economic livelihoods.

Burundi deputy head of parliament chamber encouraged the youth surrounding the training center to take the opportunity to learn new technical professions and use them to develop their home area and beyond. “I encourage you to put your hands together and establish professional associations which will bring your success and development”, she said during her inaugural speech. She also underlined on the need to take care these social infrastructure to sustainability and allow future generations to benefit from them.

NELSAP Rusumo Project Manager highlighted the satisfaction of the whole Project Governance to participate in the positive impact of people living in area surrounding Rusumo area. “We are delighted to have participated in the education and health development in services in Giteranyi Commune”, affirmed Rusumo Project Manager, Eng. Alloyce ODUOR.

These social buildings were constructed under Local Area Development Plan (LADP) of the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project (RRFHP), implemented by NELSAP Rusumo Project Implementation Unit on behalf of Rusumo Power Company Limited.
The Government of Burundi established five year provincial and communal development plans respectively, also known as PDCP (Plan de Developpment Communal) and PDP (Plan de Developpement Provincial). Those development plans are defined in consultations with communities surrounding the local areas who identify their priority needs for development. Provincial administration establishes their priorities according to consultations with communities.
