World Bank Rwanda Country Manager Visits Rusumo Project
On August 11, 2022, the World Bank Country Manager for Rwanda, Mrs. Rolande Pryce visited the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project to take stock of the Project’s progress.
The overall construction progress of the Rusumo 80MW Power Plant is at 95% nearing to completion, with civil works at 97% and electromechanical works at 92.5%. The associated three Transmission Lines Project that will directly connect from the Power Plant to the national grids of Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania are also being completed.
The construction of the Plant is being implemented by the Project Implementation Unit of NELSAP, a subsidiary program of the Nile Basin Initiative as authorized by the Rusumo Power Company Limited (RPCL) owned by the Government of Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania.
The Project is funded by the World Bank and is expected to be completed before June 2023. The World Bank Country delegation was received by RPCL Managing Director, Eng. Ntare KARITANYI and NELSAP Rusumo Project Manager, Eng. Alloyce ODUOR.
NELSAP Rusumo Project Manager took the visitors around the main Project’s construction sites: the power intake, powerhouse and the switchyard.
