RPCL Board of Directors and NBI executives meet to evaluate balance of works to completion
On March 30-31, 2023, the RPCL Board of Directors visited the 80MW Rusumo hydropower construction sites and held meeting to discuss measures to adopt to accelerate the remaining activities leading to Project completion.
The meeting was led by the Board Chairman, Eng. Innocent Luoga who appreciated the project execution status hence the need to fast-track the remaining ultimate critical works that include installation of auxiliaries, draft tube hydraulic systems among others.
The NELSAP Rusumo Project Manager presented the overall project progress at 98.7% as of March 2023 with hydromechanical works at 99.3% and electromechanical works at 97.9% implementation. He explained that the removal of sedimentation is continuous but may not delay commissioning at the headworks.
The connection of the power supplies and signals between intake and powerhouse is ongoing. Connections between transformers and take-off yard is also ongoing.
The switchyard is expecting final commissioning soon while testing of overheard line tele protection is ongoing.
The executives of the Nile Basin Initiative and NELSAP Coordination Unit attended the RPCL Board of Directors Meeting at Rusumo construction site on March 31, 2023.
The two entities discussed strategic actions required to expedite the completion of the project.
The Executive Director of the Nile Basin Initiative, Eng. Sylvester Matemu acknowledged the regular support provided by the Project Owner, RPCL to overcome construction challenges met a site.
The RPCL Board Chairman, Eng. Innocent Luoga commended the Nile Basin Initiative through NELSAP Project Implementation Unit for its remarkable efforts to complete the Project despite the defies met since commencement. He urged the PIU to double this resilience and the plant to be fully commissioned mid this year 2023. And, Eng. Matemu committed that NELSAP to double efforts to make this happen.
